Foley Cat Transforms Operator Safety with Pro-Vision Video Solution

Navigating the narrow streets and congested roadways of the Northeast is no easy feat—especially when hauling heavy machinery on low-boy trailers. For Foley Cat, a trusted Caterpillar equipment dealer with over 60 years of service, finding a solution to enhance safety and accountability was a top priority.

The Problem

Operating across the Northeastern US, Foley Cat’s drivers face a relentless challenge: dense traffic and antiquated, narrow streets designed long before the automobile era. These conditions increase the risk of accidents and make disputing false claims a logistical nightmare. For Foley Cat’s fleet of tractor-trailers, service trucks, and box trucks, the stakes were high: expensive repairs, downtime, and costly settlements could quickly add up.

Scott Barkus, Foley Cat’s fleet manager, had already improved operations with the implementation of the Samsara connected operations platform, complete with telematics and a dash cam. However, Scott sought a more comprehensive solution—one that included rear and side camera views to provide a full picture of the fleet’s surroundings.

The Pro-Vision Solution

Enter Pro-Vision’s state-of-the-art camera systems, recommended by Samsara as the perfect complement to their platform. Scott’s team implemented Pro-Vision side and rear cameras on 80 vehicles, ensuring each vehicle had the ideal camera and mounting location. To maximize efficiency, the cameras were factory-installed on new vehicles rather than retrofitted.

Each vehicle was equipped with:

  • Side cameras that activate with turn signals
  • Backup cameras that assist in reversing
  • 7" in-cab LCD displays for real-time operator visibility
  • A multiplexer feeding camera views into the Samsara platform for seamless cloud access

Service Trucks

Compact, flush-mounted cameras were selected to avoid damage while offering clear rear views. Side cameras, mounted on the front fenders, enhanced visibility during tight maneuvers. Operators could access these views effortlessly through a 3-channel monitor, ensuring safety at every turn.

Day Cabs / Tractors

From excavators to dozers, Foley’s fleet of day cabs haul a variety of equipment with low-boy trailers. The trucks utilize fender-mounted side cameras and the AHD Heavy Duty Standard Camera as a rear camera mounted just behind the cab and below the light tower. They also feature quad-view monitors, allowing operators to simultaneously monitor the load, surroundings, and trailer connections. This setup was particularly valuable for detecting unsecured loads before accidents occurred—a critical feature for safety and liability.

The Results

The impact was immediate. Shortly after installation, a side-swipe incident demonstrated the cameras' value, clearly proving Foley Cat’s driver was not at fault—avoiding an expensive settlement. The system’s value became undeniable, as Scott Barkus noted: “Once you use it, you’ll never spec a truck without it.”

With 80 vehicles already equipped and 50 more in production, Pro-Vision’s camera systems have become an integral part of Foley Cat’s commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Conclusion

For Foley Cat, the investment in Pro-Vision technology is more than a safety measure—it’s a game-changer. By enhancing operator visibility and providing indisputable video evidence, Foley Cat has protected its fleet and strengthened its reputation for reliability in the toughest operating conditions.
